How Skater Mates Created the Fenchurch Empire
Fenchurch have been creating top notch skater inspired clothing since 2000 from their base in London which was originally located near Fenchurch station, hence the name. The label’s humble beginnings started with a few mates meeting up regularly and then deciding to take their hobbies of skating and clothes design to the next level. After teaching themselves how to take their design concepts and transform them into stylish and wearable garments which their mates would be proud to wear, the label set about creating their first collection.
Created for skaters by skaters, Fenchurch had a stroke of marketing genius when in 2001 they promoted their range by sponsoring professional skateboarders and BMXers who took their clothes to the streets, competitions and to the pages of the press. At the same time, Fenchurch launched adverts in top skater magazines Document, Sidewalk and Ride and the label sold their first range of menswear to 35 key skate shops in the UK. To make sure they stay one step ahead of competitors and invest in up and coming artists, Fenchurch have always worked alongside innovative and distinctive artists such as Kid Acne and Kev Grey and incorporate their unique artwork into many of the Fenchurch designs. In 2003 Fenchurch’s popularity soared and the brand expanded their distribution to continental Europe and in 2005 opened a store in London’s fancy Covent Garden. With fans including Prince Harry (who famously caused a media furore when he donned a Fenchurch t-shirt with the slogan ‘this generation rules the nation’), Paris Hilton, Just Jack as well as top level skaters and BMXers loving the label, these really are the clothes to be seen in. Fenchurch now sell their clothes as far and wide as the USA, Russia and Australia.
Since the label launched, Fenchurch has brought out a full range of lifestyle products which as well as men’s clothing, now includes accessories, shoes, headphones and fragrances. The range features plenty of items of clothing with the famous Fenchurch logo of three interlocking letter ‘Fs’ but the collection also includes smart jumpers, jackets and tees with a more subtle finish. Fenchurch jumpers are particularly popular as they are classically cut and are highly practically as the v-neck knits and cardigans can be worn to work or for a smart look for evening drinks. Winter jackets by Fenchurch will also be your new wardrobe favourites as they appeal to street smart sensibilities whist still showing more than a little of their skater influenced edge. To complete the look, throw on one of the many Fenchurch hoodies available which range from chunky knits with funky stripes to classic logo embellished hoodies.
The brand’s close relationship with underground musicians and artists ensures that Fenchurch are always first when it comes to what’s hip and happening in terms of music, style and trends and means you get unique, inspired designs.
